Why Bamboo?

The worlds fastest growing timber alternative now provides the worlds finest flooring. Bamboo is fast becoming the most popular choice of flooring for architects, interior designers and builders. It is an eco-friendly choice that considers the environment and at the same time is extremely hard wearing and attractive. More and more people are finding out about the seemingly endless benefits of a bamboo floor in both looks and practicality. Bamboo is allergy free, extremely strong, environmentally friendly and termite resistant. The boards are coated with numerous coats of a very resilient and hard wearing Polyurethane and is UV cured. It is suitable for commercial and high traffic areas.

Some people have expressed concern that the natural habitat and food supply of Pandas will be harmed by bamboo product manufacture. The species of bamboo used for our products (Mao or Moso bamboo) is very different to that sought by Pandas and manufacture of our products has no negative impact on the Pandas environment

About Bamboo

Bamboo is regarded as the strongest growing wood plant on earth. It is technically a grass, not wood and is found in tropical and sub-tropical climates throughout the world. China is the largest source of bamboo worldwide.

Once the bamboo is harvested and processed it is more stable in its resistance to movement caused by moisture and harder than most old-growth forest hardwoods. The equilibrium moisture content in non air conditioned residential applications is usually assumed to be approximately 12%. It is somewhat lower, at about 10% in air conditioned applications. There may therefore be some slight expansion in the product in some applications. If provision for expansion is made, this should generally not cause problems.

Advantages of Bamboo Flooring

  • Environmentally sustainable
  • Bamboo is an attractive alternative to hardwood floors, and is the product derived from the forests of a fully sustainable, environmentally friendly and rapidly growing renewable resource.
  • Easy installation
  • Bamboo Flooring compares favourably with traditional solid timber floors and given it is already sanded and finished they are capable of being quickly installed, ready for use with minimal disruption.
  • Very stable Under humid and dry conditions
  • Bamboo flooring is allergy free
  • Bamboo floorboards are sealed with non-toxic glues and are finished with aluminium oxide.
  • Our Bamboo Floors have high UV resistance, blocking the sun's harmful rays and protecting the floor pattern from fading over time.
  • Excellent warranty protection
  • The manufacturer warrants Bamboo Flooring in the original manufactured state free from structural defects (Structural Warranty) for 20 years in residential applications and 10 years for commercial uses. The manufacturer warrants to the original purchaser that the wear layer (Coating Warranty) of aluminium oxide will not peel or separate from the flooring plank in residential applications for 10 years and 5 for commercial uses.
  • Easy cleaning
  • Since bamboo flooring doesn't trap dirt, most spills can be cleaned up with a damp cloth or sponge.
  • Very low emissions through waste and pollution; the result is a very environmentally friendly product.
  • Strand woven Bamboo Floors are very hard and durable (Janka Rating of 14.3kN and 15.3kN). Traditional Horizontal and vertical bamboo flooring has a Janka hardness rating of 6.9kN to 8.5kN
  • Two flooring solutions
  • Uniclic Bamboo Flooring, which is a DIY floating floor and Tongue and groove Bamboo Flooring, which is traditional tongue and groove strip flooring.

Bamboo Manufacturing

Bamboo is first harvested. The stalks are then split or stripped depending on what type of boards are going to be manufactured. These pieces of bamboo are then sized and air and kiln dried. At this stage some of the bamboo is steamed to carbonise the pieces for the manufacture of the darker caramel and coffee colours. The strips are then sorted to ensure that only quality pieces are used to make up the planks. These pieces are then glued and pressed together to create boards that are then machined into planks. The planks are then sealed and each plank is inspected for quality before being packed.
